Julio deCastillo was born in La Paz, Bolivia, and grew up in Lima, Peru. His mother was a nurse and his father a businessman who supplied products to Sears. In 1988 he graduated as an architect at the University of La Paz, and the following year he decided to explore Mississippi as a place to live. He has continued his education here, both at Georgia Tech and Memphis State universities. He believes helping others is his vocation, by using his personal and business experience and his bilingual skills.
(The Mississippi Arts Center is the former Mississippi Museum of Art at Lamar and Pascagoula, next to the Planetarium. We meet on the second floor, which is elevator-accessible.
